I <heart> NY
I love this city. We've experienced and already forgotten more about tolerance than the rest of the world even knows.

So true . . .
only a few places on this earth come close to this .

experienced and already forgotten more about tolerance
WTF does that even mean?

We've experienced and already forgotten .....
That's the dumbest comment I've read all week

Obviously...
He means that this whole tolerance thing that the rest of the world is struggling with... is something that New York has dealt with, accepted and moved on for a while now... I guess some people just don't understand a common expression...

Re: Obviously...
Obviously that's bullshit. It's all in your heads.

"It's all in your heads."
It's obvious from this sentence alone that you're incompetent when it comes to analyzing the validity of statements by using things like history. Although if you're a neocon, no one expects you to know anything about history anyways.

No
It's obvious that your "tolerance" in NY used to be racism, but now it's being complete assholes to everyone.Like you're doing now.

YES you fackin dumbass
NY is tolerant of different races, but not tolerant to little cunt fucking bitches like yourself. so come to NY and watch how quickly us "assholes" will shove a metal pipe up your whiney ass and throws you in the dirt ass gutter.

FeCK YOU!!
I'll feckin show you some tollerance by pushin your dumb ass onto the tracks bitch! Then tell me New Yorkers arent the most tollerant on this god damned earth.

ny
they've moved on from being assholes to just certain race, to being assholes to everyone. Truly great progress.

LOL
Agreed. Funniest escalation I've seen all week. It didn't take long before they killed eachother off. Life in a nutshell.

wow
If these two nutcases are from NY, that's really a fine example of "tolerance" they're setting. Ha!

dunno about that...
i can totally see where that poster is coming from having lived there a good portion of my life... still love the place for what it is, but i'm certainly glad i no longer live there anymore...

Toronto, much the same.
It's amazing, really. Once you see it, multiple cultures really can cohabit.
Of course, there are always going to be issues that not everyone agrees on; but in a free society, that's really all most of us want, isn't it? Just to be left alone to live. By the same token, I rarely go a month without disagreeing with my wife. :)
Living with other types of people allows us to learn and broaden our knowledge of the world. It's wonderful.

Have you ever BEEN anywhere else?
I've lived in New York, but I've also lived in other cities. If you think New York is tolerant of minorities, time to travel.

Due to my job I had to move
Due to my job I had to move from NY to San Diego. God knows I miss NY! :(

I've seen weirder people in
I've seen weirder people in NY subs

are they going to work or
are they going to work or coming back from work?

That guy with the yellow cap
That guy with the yellow cap - he is *at* work!

Yup....
That is one of the cool things about NYC... you really don't know... for all we know... he could be a well renowned artist that is prepping a new showing. In fact, my guess is that he is doing something important to him and those close to him. I would never guess that he is unemployed or a moocher or psycho. He looks too neat. For all we know, he could be a millionaire. We just don't know...

NONSENSE! our subways could
NONSENSE!
our subways could NEVER be that clean

Knitter Please
That is awesome

NYC is fine. It's just the
NYC is fine. It's just the loud-mouthed residents that rub everybody the wrong way. People from NYC might get along with each other, but once you place one in a different town, they immediately start bitching about how much they hate where they are. I know you aren't aware of this, NYC residents, but to the rest of us, you don't seem tolerant at all. You seem terribly sheltered and ignorant about how things are done outside of your home town.
Try to keep up with the rest of us. NYC is a big town, but there really is a world outside the city limits.

NYC Sucks
The only the good that ever came out of NYC was the Ghostbusters, and they're not even real.

I have to disagree...
I am not even from NYC and moved here a few years ago. Also, I despise the power structure of NYC (because I am part of it).
With that said, the regular people of NYC are awesome. What I mean by regular is that the non-privileged people. It is the elite snobs that ruin it for everyone.

So, what would happen to the
So, what would happen to the guy somewhere else?
Could be the London underground, or the Paris metro, pretty much anywhere really other than maybe Afghanistan or some crazy US snake-cult town.

I don't necessarily think
I don't necessarily think that something would happen to the guy somewhere else, it's more that the reaction of the other people around him might be different somewhere else (perhaps less nonchalant). At least that's how I interpreted the original poster's comment.

US Snake-cult Town
What you don't know about the way we get down in US Snake-cult towns could fill a filthy NYC subway.

I'd always heard that New
I'd always heard that New Yorkers were *ssholes, but the few times I've been there everyone was pleasant and not rude at all. Upstaters, on the other hand, now those are some rude people.

i dont get it
What is so great about this picture and how does this glorify New York???

It tells more about the
It tells more about the poster of the picture than about NY really.

Somebody thinks he is strange...
Obviously somebody thought what he was doing was strange- that is why they took a picture of him- is the photo taker from NY or elsewhere?

i bet that's the L train
looks like the inside of the L train. weird shit like that tends to come out of brooklyn.
also, its not that new yorkers are tolerant. its that we've already accepted our inherent racism and gotten on with our lives, because there are far more important things to think about.

I see people on a train...
I see people on a train... Definetly not a reason to orgasm at new york's tolerance for other cultures, because its no different to most cities! Stupid arrogant patriotism once again from a nation of fools

I live in seattle, this
I live in seattle, this doesn't seem weird to me

that is freakin' awesome
god i love this city!

Is that Andre3000?
It looks like him.

Why are people saying "that
Why are people saying "that looks just like Andre 3000"? All you can really say is that it's a black guy with a beard. You can't really see his face. Maybe its the fact that he's wearing a weird outfit, I don't know. Bottom line is, you really can't identify him.
Would Andre 3000 take the subway?

Funny Joke?
G-G-G-G-G U KNIT

NYC IS THE EPITOME OF TOLERANCE
We are NYers, first and foremost; ethnicity, race, religion, color, all are secondary and barely noted. Yes, we mind our own business AND we were voted the politest city in America. We care; take a look at us and how we were after 9/11. A huge Mayberry, USA. We work hard, we play hard and we are the best!!

this is NY
no, this is the wonderful prison rehabilitation programs at work........

This is what keeps NY going!
This is what keeps NY going! Each one minds his own business. You gotta live there to appreciate NY
